2023 Missouri – Jordan Rowe

Jordan Rowe, PharmD, BCACP, BC-ADM
Clinical Assistant Professor
University of Missouri – Kansas City, School of Pharmacy

In 2019, Jordan Rowe made the career-altering decision to become part of the first Interprofessional LGBTQ collaborative care clinic in the Midwest. Housed at the University of Missouri – Kansas City, the clinic first opened its doors in early 2020 following an intense planning process. Today, Rowe serves as the clinic’s only pharmacist, working closely with a diverse range of physicians and other health professionals to provide a safety-net health system for LGBTQ patients. According to Rowe, the clinic’s patient population is “often uninsured, or under-insured, has baseline low health literacy, and significant financial and social needs.” In addition to managing medication therapy, including devices and supplies, she also orders and monitors lab work, performs physical assessments and makes referrals. Rowe and her colleagues also offer comprehensive medical management of chronic health problems, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and provide public health services, such as vaccination and health screenings. In terms of specific LGBTQ health issues, Rowe has worked collaboratively to provide gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) to patients, and she is the sole provider of GAHT injection education, among other educational roles. Rowe is particularly proud to have structured her practice so that “student pharmacists and pharmacy residents are able to… gain exposure to clinical management of GAHT and general LGBTQ health needs.”
