2022 Rhode Island – Kenny Correia
Kenny Correia, PharmD, BCACP, CVDOE
Clinical Pharmacy Manager
Anchor Medical Associates, Providence, RI
From pre-travel health consults to medication therapy reimbursements to collaborative practice agreements (CPA) for multiple disease states, Kenny is a trailblazer in Rhode Island pharmacy services. “I was one of the first pharmacists (in 2009) to work with OutcomesMTM (medication therapy management),” said Kenny. He was first in the northeast to get reimbursed for comprehensive medication review/MTM work.
Kenny also was one of the first to complete advanced competency training for travel health services and help lead the rollout and training for the American Pharmacy Association’s pre-travel health consult program with Walgreens Pharmacies in RI and currently the only pharmacist with the state with a CPA that allows for medication initiation for pre-travel related medications. Kenny has lobbied for CPA/scope of practice expansion at the state legislature and manages hundreds of patients identified as high-risk according to bone density scans. With all these innovations, it is no surprise that during the COVID pandemic, “I added the role of triage, assessment and treatment for our practice care team for patients that tested positive for COVID. Working closely with the department of health and our providers, I helped arrange for COVID treatments under a standing order, including ordering and administering subcutaneous monoclonal antibodies.” Reflecting on his career, Kenny said, “Pharmacy is a great combination of being science-based, using problem-solving skills and helping people.”
